Tingi aaleikala na banakulu.

Tingi lived with his grandmother.


Aaleafwa banakulu ukucema iŋombe.

He used to look after the cows with her.


Ubushiku bumo abashilika balishile.

One day the soldiers came.


Baasendele iŋombe no kuya nasho.

They took the cows away.


Tingi na banakulu baalibutwike babelama.

Tingi and his grandmother ran away and hid.


Baabeleme mu mpanga mpaka bwaila.

They hid in the bush until night.


Abashilika balishile na kabili.

Then the soldiers came back.


Banakulu baafishile Tingi panshi ya mabuula.

Grandmother hid Tingi under the leaves.


Umushilika umo aanyantile Tingi, lelo Tingi aalifye tondolo.

One of the soldiers put his foot right on him, but he kept quiet.


Lintu abashilika baile, Tingi na banakulu balifisamwike.

When it was safe, Tingi and his grandmother came out.


Baile ku ŋanda umutalalila.

They crept home very quietly.
