Tingi kwatungure navanyakulyakadi vendi.

Tingi lived with his grandmother.


Kava litanga kumwe ngombe.

He used to look after the cows with her.


Liyuva limwe mpo vayire vaka vita.

One day the soldiers came.


Avaya ghupu ngombe.

They took the cows away.


Tingi navanyakulyakadi vendi ava duka vaka bate.

Tingi and his grandmother ran away and hid.


Ava kabata muvishwa dogoro matiku.

They hid in the bush until night.


Vakavita makura avaka vyuka.

Then the soldiers came back.


Vanyakulyakadi vendi ava muhoreke mumahako.

Grandmother hid Tingi under the leaves.


Mukavita umwe amu lyata, ene ngoli uye teete.

One of the soldiers put his foot right on him, but he kept quiet.


Opa vyakutulire, Tingi vananyakulyakadi vendi ana rupuka mo.

When it was safe, Tingi and his grandmother came out.


Ava kuvavayiki vayende mushipore-pore.

They crept home very quietly.
