Tingi te rete kay grann li.

Tingi lived with his grandmother.


Li te okipe bèf yo ak grann li.

He used to look after the cows with her.


Yon jou sòlda parèt.

One day the soldiers came.


Yo pran tout bèf yo.

They took the cows away.


Tingi ak grann li sove al kache.

Tingi and his grandmother ran away and hid.


Yo rete kache nan bwa yo jis lannwit rive.

They hid in the bush until night.


Enpi sòlda yo tounen.

Then the soldiers came back.


Grann Tingi kouvri kò yo ak fèy bwa.

Grandmother hid Tingi under the leaves.


Yonn nan sòlda yo mache sou Tingi, men Tingi pa rele.

One of the soldiers put his foot right on him, but he kept quiet.


Lè danje a fini Tingi ak grann li leve.

When it was safe, Tingi and his grandmother came out.


Yo tounen lakay yo san yo pa fè bwi.

They crept home very quietly.
