Yon jou manman’m rive ak anpil fwi.
One day, mama got a lot of fruit.
Nou mande manman nou “Kilè nou ka maje yon ti fwi?” Manman’m reponn nou “Nou pral manje fwi sa yo pita, aswè an.
“When can we have some fruit?” we ask.
“We will have the fruit tonight,” says mama.
Frè’m ki rele Rahim renmen bouch li anpil. Li goute nan tout fwi yo enpi lo manje anpil nan yo.
My brother Rahim is greedy. He tastes all the fruit. He eats a lot of it.
Ti frè’m rele “Gade sa Rahim fè!”. Mwen di “Rahim ou se yon vakabon, ou egoyis”.
“Look at what Rahim did!” shouts my little brother.
“Rahim is naughty and selfish,” I say.
Manman’m pa te kontan ak Rahim.
Mother is angry with Rahim.
Nou te fache ak Rahim tou. Men, Rahim pa janm regrèt anyen.
We are also angry with Rahim. But Rahim is not sorry.
Ti frè’m mande manman’m « Ou pa pral pini Rahim? »
“Aren’t you going to punish Rahim?” asks little brother.
Manman’m avèti Rahim “Rahim, nan yon tibout tan ou pral regrèt sa ou fè ».
“Rahim, soon you will be sorry,” warns mama.
Rahim kòmanse santi’l malad.
Rahim starts to feel sick.
“Vant mwen ap fè’m mal,” Rahim di tout ba.
“My tummy is so sore,” whispers Rahim.
Manman’m te konnen sa ta pral rive. Fwi yo pini ou Rahim!
Mama knew this would happen. The fruit is punishing Rahim!
Apre sa a, Rahim vin mande nou padon. Li pwomèt nou “Mwen pap janm visye konsa ankò”. Nou tout kwè Rahim.
Later, Rahim says sorry to us. “I will never be so greedy again,” he promises.
And we all believe him.
