Tingi wa turire pu na ina omukurukaze.

Tingi lived with his grandmother.


Ovo aave tjevere ozongombe zavo.

He used to look after the cows with her.


Eyuva rimwe pe ya ovasorondate.

One day the soldiers came.


Ovo ve veyeka ozongombe zavo.

They took the cows away.


Tingi na tjikukae va tupuka nave kaṱara.

Tingi and his grandmother ran away and hid.


Ovo va kaṱara motjihwa nga ngurova.

They hid in the bush until night.


Nu vvasorondate arire tji va kotoka rukwao.

Then the soldiers came back.


Tjikukae wa horeka Tingi kehi yoviyao.

Grandmother hid Tingi under the leaves.


Umwe wovasorondate we mu yata nombaze, neye wa mwina kumwi.

One of the soldiers put his foot right on him, but he kept quiet.


Tji va muna kutja kwa mwina, Tingi na Tjikukae va pita.

When it was safe, Tingi and his grandmother came out.


Ovo va honena konganda kumwi.

They crept home very quietly.
