むかしむかし、幸せな家族がいました。
Once upon a time,
there lived a happy
family.
３人兄弟は、決して喧嘩をしたことがありませんでした。家でも畑でも両親の手伝いをしていました。
They never fought with
each other. They helped
their parents at home
and in the fields.
けれども火の近くには近寄ってはいけないと言われていました。
But they were not
allowed to go near a
fire.
彼らがお手伝いをするのは、決まって夜の間だけでした。ワックスでできているので、溶けてしまうからです！
They had to do all their
work during the night.
Because they were made of wax!
けれども、兄弟の一人はお日さまのいる風景を見たくて、外出したくてたまらなくなりました。
But one of the boys
longed to go out in the
sunlight.
ある日、彼は思いのまま外に飛び出していきました。兄弟たちが必死に止めようとしたのですが……
One day the longing
was too strong. His
brothers warned him…
それも間に合いませんでした！太陽の熱で彼は溶けてしまいました。
But it was too late!
He melted in the hot
sun.
ワックスの子供たちは兄弟が溶けていくのを見てとても悲しくなりました。
The wax children were
so sad to see their
brother melting away.
しかし、彼らには作戦がありました。溶けてしまったワックスの塊で鳥の形にするというものでした。
But they made a plan.
They shaped the lump
of melted wax into a
bird.
彼らは鳥に生まれ変わった兄弟を高い山の頂上まで運びました。
They took their bird
brother up to a high
mountain.
お日さまが昇ると、鳥となった兄弟は、歌を歌いながら、朝日の光の方へ飛び立って行きました。
And as the sun rose, he
flew away singing into
the morning light.
