Tingi abyikere namukaka wiwe.

Tingi lived with his grandmother.


Inyakalisaya e’syande.

He used to look after the cows with her.


Kiro kiwuma abasirikali mubasa.

One day the soldiers came.


Mubaheka esy’ande syosi.

They took the cows away.


Tingi banamuka wiwe mubathibitha neriyabisama.

Tingi and his grandmother ran away and hid.


Mubabisama omwakisuki erihika omwakiro.

They hid in the bush until night.


Kandi abasirikali mubasubulha.

Then the soldiers came back.


Omukekulhu mwabisa Tingi yomwabithi.

Grandmother hid Tingi under the leaves.


Omusirikale muwuma mwalyathira Tingi okwakisando, kyonga Tingi mwayihunira, mwathayiseghania.

One of the soldiers put his foot right on him, but he kept quiet.


Obuholho bwabere bwabanika, Tingi na mukaka wiwe mubalhwa omwoli eyababisama.

When it was safe, Tingi and his grandmother came out.


Mubanyonya lyolho lyolho eriha eka.

They crept home very quietly.
