Tingi waikalanga na ba nkambo yanji babakazhi.

Tingi lived with his grandmother.


Balamanga bañombe pamo ne ba nkambo yanji babakazhi.

He used to look after the cows with her.


Juuba jimo bashilikale baishile.

One day the soldiers came.


Bebatambwile bañombe bonsetu.

They took the cows away.


Tingi ne ba nkambo yanji babakazhi banyemene ne kufyama.

Tingi and his grandmother ran away and hid.


Bafyamine mungye kufikatu ne bufuku.

They hid in the bush until night.


Bashilikale babwelele.

Then the soldiers came back.


Ba nkambo yanji bamufile Tingi mumabula.

Grandmother hid Tingi under the leaves.


Mushilikale umo wamunyanchile pano bino aye waikeletu nzoo.

One of the soldiers put his foot right on him, but he kept quiet.


Pakumona amba bashilikale baya, Tingi ne bankambo yanji balupukile.

When it was safe, Tingi and his grandmother came out.


Bakalabiletu kishinshi nekutwela munzubo.

They crept home very quietly.
