Tingi waikelenga ne bankambo yanji babakazhi.

Tingi lived with his grandmother.


Walaminenga bang’ombe pano ne bankambo yanji babakazhi.

He used to look after the cows with her.


Juba jimo bashilikale baishile.

One day the soldiers came.


Batambwile ba ng’ombe.

They took the cows away.


Tingi ne bankambo yanji banyemene ne kufyama.

Tingi and his grandmother ran away and hid.


Bafyamine mungye kufika ne bufuku.

They hid in the bush until night.


Bashilikale babwelele.

Then the soldiers came back.


Bankambo yanji Tingi bamufile muma bula.

Grandmother hid Tingi under the leaves.


Mushilikale umo wamunyanchile pano waikeletu nzoo.

One of the soldiers put his foot right on him, but he kept quiet.


Pakumona amba bashilikale baya , Tingi ne bankambo yanji balupukile.

When it was safe, Tingi and his grandmother came out.


Babombokeletu nzoo nekubwela kunzubo kwabo.

They crept home very quietly.
