Tingi kwa tungire kumwe nomama vendi wovakadi.

Tingi lived with his grandmother.


Age nga kungu nongombe kumwe nomama vendi.

He used to look after the cows with her.


Ezuva limwe vakwayita kwa wizire.

One day the soldiers came.


Awo kwaya gusire nongombe.

They took the cows away.


Tingi nomama vendi kwa dukire vaka vande.

Tingi and his grandmother ran away and hid.


Awo kwa ka vende moyinhwa dogoro ngurova.

They hid in the bush until night.


Ano vakwayita yipo vaka tengwire.

Then the soldiers came back.


Omama vendi yipo va mu horekere Tingi konhi zomahako.

Grandmother hid Tingi under the leaves.


Mukwayita gumwe yipo galyete kuguru kwendi korutu rwa Tingi, nye age kwa mwenene teete.

One of the soldiers put his foot right on him, but he kept quiet.


Apa va mwene asi kuna wapa, Tingi no mama vendi yipo va tundire oku va vende.

When it was safe, Tingi and his grandmother came out.


Kwa tengwire kembo nelimweneneno.

They crept home very quietly.
