Tingi yabeeranga ne jjajjawe.

Tingi lived with his grandmother.


Yateranga okulunda ente ne jjajjawe.

He used to look after the cows with her.


Olwaali olwo, nga abaserukale bajja.

One day the soldiers came.


Nga batwaala ente.

They took the cows away.


Tingi ne jjajjawe ne badduka ne bekweka.

Tingi and his grandmother ran away and hid.


Beekweka mu kibira okutuusa ekiro.

They hid in the bush until night.


Ate abaserukale ne baakomawo.

Then the soldiers came back.


Jjajja wa Tingi n’amukweka mu bikoola.

Grandmother hid Tingi under the leaves.


Omu ku baserukale n’amulinnyako, naye Tingi n’asirika.

One of the soldiers put his foot right on him, but he kept quiet.


Nga wonna wasiriikiridde, Tingi ne Jjajjawe ne bavaayo.

When it was safe, Tingi and his grandmother came out.


Ne batambula mpola mu kasirise okutuuka awaka.

They crept home very quietly.
