Tingi napila nibo kuku ahae babasali.

Tingi lived with his grandmother.


Nalisa likomu ni bona.

He used to look after the cows with her.


Lizazi lelimu masole bataha.

One day the soldiers came.


Babaamuha likomo ni kulishimba.

They took the cows away.


Tingi ni bo kuku ahae babasali ba mata ni kuiyopata.

Tingi and his grandmother ran away and hid.


Baipata mwa mushitu kufitela busihu.

They hid in the bush until night.


Cwale masole bakuta hape.

Then the soldiers came back.


Bo kuku babasali bapata Tingi mwatasi amatali.

Grandmother hid Tingi under the leaves.


Alimumu wa masole amuhata ka lihutu lahae la bulyo kono yena akuza.

One of the soldiers put his foot right on him, but he kept quiet.


Asekubile hande, Tingi ni bo kukwahae babasali ba zwa mwateni.

When it was safe, Tingi and his grandmother came out.


Bananahalela kwa ndu kakukuza kokutuna.

They crept home very quietly.
