Tingi atwamine nakhaka yenyi waphwevo.

Tingi lived with his grandmother.


Apwilenga nakulama vangombe hamwe nakhaka yenyi waphwevo.

He used to look after the cows with her.


Likumbi limwe maswalale vejile.

One day the soldiers came.


Vambachile vangombe nakuya navo.

They took the cows away.


Tingi nakhaka yenyi waphwevo vachinyine nakuswama.

Tingi and his grandmother ran away and hid.


Vaswamine mumusenge kuheta nakuufuku.

They hid in the bush until night.


Kaha maswalale vejile cheka.

Then the soldiers came back.


Khaka yenyi waphwevo aswekele Tingi kwishi ya mafwo.

Grandmother hid Tingi under the leaves.


Liswalale umwe amulyachile lihinji oloze Tingi aholele kulu.

One of the soldiers put his foot right on him, but he kept quiet.


Omu valingile vaze maswalale vanayi, Tingi nakhaka yenyi vafumine haze vaswamine.

When it was safe, Tingi and his grandmother came out.


Vatambukile chindende chindende muuholela nakuya kwimbo.

They crept home very quietly.
