Tingi atwamine nava kaka yenyi vapwevo.

Tingi lived with his grandmother.


Apwilenga nakulama vangombe hamwe nava kaka yenyi vapwevo.

He used to look after the cows with her.


Likumbi limwe mashilika vejile.

One day the soldiers came.


Vambachile vangombe nakuya nabo.

They took the cows away.


Tingi nava kaka yenyi wapwevo vatuchile nakuswama.

Tingi and his grandmother ran away and hid.


Vaswamine mumusenge kuheta naku wufuku.

They hid in the bush until night.


Kaha mashilika vejile cheka.

Then the soldiers came back.


Kaka yenyi wapwevo aswekele Tingi mwishi ya mafo.

Grandmother hid Tingi under the leaves.


Shikaho mushilika wumwe ahakile lihinji hali Tingi wunonyi aholele.

One of the soldiers put his foot right on him, but he kept quiet.


Omu kwapwile kanawa, Tingi na kaka yenyi wapwevo vafumine omu vaswamine.

When it was safe, Tingi and his grandmother came out.


Vendele chindende chindende muwuholelo kuya kwimbo.

They crept home very quietly.
