Tingi ghatungire nanyakudyendi ghomukamadi.

Tingi lived with his grandmother.


Ngahakunganga ngombe dhawo pofotji.

He used to look after the cows with her.


Diyuwa dimweya hashurundate heyire.

One day the soldiers came.


Hanashimbire ngombe dhawo.

They took the cows away.


Tingi nanyakudyendi ghomukamadi hatjirire hakonde.

Tingi and his grandmother ran away and hid.


Hondire mudiputa kate ghuthiku.

They hid in the bush until night.


Munyimadhopo hashurundate hakahukire karo.

Then the soldiers came back.


Nyakudya Tingi ghondekire Tingi kwishi dhomahako.

Grandmother hid Tingi under the leaves.


Mushurundate ghumweya ghamudjatire, ene ‘yene pore.

One of the soldiers put his foot right on him, but he kept quiet.


Apa hamonine haTingi nanyakudyendi ghomukamadi eshi yinakutura, hakuhokorire.

When it was safe, Tingi and his grandmother came out.


Hanyomine muthipore hatambe kudighumbo.

They crept home very quietly.
