Esiku limwe meme okwe ya niiyimati oyindji.
One day, mama got a lot of fruit.
“Uunake tatu pewa iiyimati?” Osho twa pula. “Otatu lyeni iiyimati ongulohi,” meme osho a ti.
“When can we have some fruit?” we ask.
“We will have the fruit tonight,” says mama.
Omumwamememati Rahim okwa li omufukedhi. Okwa lolo oshiyimati kehe. Okwa li iiyimati oyindji unene sha pitilila.
My brother Rahim is greedy. He tastes all the fruit. He eats a lot of it.
“Tala shoka Rahim a ningi!” okamwamememati osho ka igidha. “Rahim omutsini unene ye okwiihole,” osho nda ti.
“Look at what Rahim did!” shouts my little brother.
“Rahim is naughty and selfish,” I say.
Meme okwa li a geela Rahim.
Mother is angry with Rahim.
Natse wo otwa li twa geela Rahim. Ashike Rahim ka li e na ko nasha.
We are also angry with Rahim. But Rahim is not sorry.
“Meme, ito geele Rahim?” okamwamememati taka pula.
“Aren’t you going to punish Rahim?” asks little brother.
“Rahim ote shi mono ngashingeyi,” meme osho a ti nekunkililo.
“Rahim, soon you will be sorry,” warns mama.
Rahim okwa tameke okweehama.
Rahim starts to feel sick.
“Epunda lyandje otali ehama,” Rahim osho a nongona.
“My tummy is so sore,” whispers Rahim.
Meme okwa adhika nale e shi tegelela, kutya iiyimati otayi ka kutha Rahim oshityani!
Mama knew this would happen. The fruit is punishing Rahim!
Konima Rahim okwe tu pe ombili. “Itandi kala we nando olumwe omufukedhi ngaaka,” osho a uvaneke. Naatuhe otwa li twe mu itaala.
Later, Rahim says sorry to us. “I will never be so greedy again,” he promises.
And we all believe him.
