Ahh! Umma uze neenthelo.

One day, mama got a lot of fruit.

Mina ngilambile. Umma uzosipha nini iinthelo lezi?

“When can we have some fruit?” we ask. “We will have the fruit tonight,” says mama.

Hlam, hlam, hlam! Mnandi!

My brother Rahim is greedy. He tastes all the fruit. He eats a lot of it.

“Ngubani odle iinthelo?” kubuza uSana. “UThemba akakalungi,” kukhuluma uThembi.

“Look at what Rahim did!” shouts my little brother. “Rahim is naughty and selfish,” I say.

Umma ukwatile.

Mother is angry with Rahim.

“Themba, ngubani odle iinthelo?”

We are also angry with Rahim. But Rahim is not sorry.

Mma uThemba udle iinthelo zoke, ibhanana, ipenapula, ipiyere, umengo.

“Aren’t you going to punish Rahim?” asks little brother.

Themba kubayini ungabawi. Linthelo bezingakahlanzeki.

“Rahim, soon you will be sorry,” warns mama.

Ngiyajuluka.

Rahim starts to feel sick.

Mma amathumbu wami abuhlungu.

“My tummy is so sore,” whispers Rahim.

Ngizwa ubuhlungu.

Mama knew this would happen. The fruit is punishing Rahim!

Siyakulibalela Themba. Zifundise ukubawa njalo.

Later, Rahim says sorry to us. “I will never be so greedy again,” he promises. And we all believe him.
