Tingi amakhala ndi agogo ake akazi.

Tingi lived with his grandmother.


Amakonda kuweta ng’ombezo.

He used to look after the cows with her.


Tsiku lina asirikali anabwera.

One day the soldiers came.


Anatenga ng’ombezo kupita nazo.

They took the cows away.


Tingi ndi agogo ake adathawa ndi kubisala.

Tingi and his grandmother ran away and hid.


Adabisala kuthengo mpaka usiku.

They hid in the bush until night.


Kenako asirikaliwo anabwerera.

Then the soldiers came back.


Agogo adabisa Tingi pansi pamasamba.

Grandmother hid Tingi under the leaves.


M’modzi wa asirikali adaika phazi lake pa iye, koma iye adakhala cete.

One of the soldiers put his foot right on him, but he kept quiet.


Kutakhala bwino, Tingi ndi agogo ake adatuluka.

When it was safe, Tingi and his grandmother came out.


Anabwerera kunyumba mwakacete-cete.

They crept home very quietly.
