Satul meu avea multe probleme. Făceam coadă lungă să luăm apă de la o cișmea.
My village had many problems.
We made a long line to fetch water from one tap.
Așteptam pentru mâncare donată de alții.
We waited for food donated by others.
Ne încuiam casele devreme din cauza hoților.
We locked our houses early because of thieves.
Mulți copii se lăsau de școală.
Many children dropped out of school.
Fete tinere lucrau ca ajutoare în alte sate.
Young girls worked as maids in other villages.
Băieți tineri hoinăreau prin sat în timp ce alții lucrau la fermele oamenilor.
Young boys roamed around the village while others worked on people’s farms.
Când bătea vântul, deșeuri de hârtie se agățau pe copaci și pe ziduri.
When the wind blew, waste paper hung on trees and fences.
Oamenii se tăiau in sticle sparte care fuseseră aruncate neglijent.
People were cut by broken glass that was thrown carelessly.
Apoi într-o zi, apa la cișmea n-a mai curs și vasele noastre erau goale.
Then one day, the tap dried up and our containers were empty.
Tatăl meu a mers din casă în casă cerând oamenilor să ia parte la o adunare a satului.
My father walked from house to house asking people to attend a village meeting.
Oamenii s-au adunat sub un copac mare și au ascultat.
People gathered under a big tree and listened.
Tatăl meu s-a ridicat în picioare și a spus, “Avem nevoie să lucrăm împreună să ne rezolvăm problemele.”
My father stood up and said, “We need to work together to solve our problems.”
Juma, în vârstă de opt ani, care ședea pe un buștean a strigat, “Eu pot ajuta cu curățenia.”
Eight-year-old Juma, sitting on a tree trunk shouted, “I can help with cleaning up.”
O femeie a spus, “Femeile mi se pot alătura să creștem de-ale gurii.”
One woman said, “The women can join me to grow food.”
Alt bărbat s-a ridicat și a spus, “Bărbații vor săpa o fântână.”
Another man stood up and said, “The men will dig a well.”
Cu toții am strigat într-un glas, “Trebuie să ne schimbăm viața.” Din acea zi am lucrat împreună să ne rezolvăm problemele.
We all shouted with one voice, “We must change our lives.”
From that day we worked together to solve our problems.
