Umunsi umwe, mama yabonye/yarafite imbuto nyinshi.
One day, mama got a lot of fruit.
“Niryari twafata imbuto?” turabaza. “Turaza kurya imbuto ninjoro,” mama aravuga.
“When can we have some fruit?” we ask.
“We will have the fruit tonight,” says mama.
Musaza wange Rahim ni igisambo. Yariye imbuto zose. Yariye nyinshi muri zo.
My brother Rahim is greedy. He tastes all the fruit. He eats a lot of it.
“Reba ibyo Rahim yakoze!” musaza wange muto arasakuza. “Rahim yitwara nabi aranikunda,” ndavuga.
“Look at what Rahim did!” shouts my little brother.
“Rahim is naughty and selfish,” I say.
Mama arakarira Rahim.
Mother is angry with Rahim.
Natwe turakarira Rahim. Ariko Rahim ntacyo byari bimubwiye.
We are also angry with Rahim. But Rahim is not sorry.
“Ntago ugiye guhana Rahim?” murumuna muto arabaza.
“Aren’t you going to punish Rahim?” asks little brother.
“Rahim, mukanya uricuza,” mama aramuburira.
“Rahim, soon you will be sorry,” warns mama.
Rahim atangira kurwara.
Rahim starts to feel sick.
“Ninda yange irimo kumbabaza cyane,” Rahim arongorera.
“My tummy is so sore,” whispers Rahim.
Mama yarazi ko ibi byari bube. Imputo irimo guhana Rahim!
Mama knew this would happen. The fruit is punishing Rahim!
Nyuma, Rahim adusaba imbabazi. “Sinzongera kkuba igisambo ukundi,” aradusezeranya. Kandi twese turamwizera.
Later, Rahim says sorry to us. “I will never be so greedy again,” he promises.
And we all believe him.
