ቶም ዝበሰለ ባናና ብካሴታ ይስከም።
Tom carries a tray of ripe bananas.
ቶም ባናና ክሸይጥ ናብ’ቲ ዕዳጋ ይኸይድ።
Tom goes to the market to sell bananas.
ሰባት ኣብ’ቲ ዕዳጋ ፍረታት ይገዝኡ ኣለዉ።
People at the market are buying fruit.
ካብ ናይ ቶም ባናና ግን ዋላሓደ ሰብ ዝገዝእ የለን። ካብ ደቀንስትዮ እዮም ፍረታት ክገዝኡ ዝመርጹ።
But no one is buying
Tom’s bananas.
They prefer to buy fruit from women.
“ኣብ ሕብረተሰብና፡ ደቀንስትዮ ጥራይ እየን ፍረታት ዝሸጣ።” ይብሉ ሰባት። ንሓድሕዶም “እንታይ ዓይነት ሰብኣይ’ዩ ኣታ’ዚ?” ይባሃሃሉ።
“In our community, only women sell fruit,” people say. “What kind of a man is this?” people ask.
ቶም ግን ተስፋ ኣይቆርጽን። ከም’ዚ ድማ ይብል፡ “ካብ ባናናይ ግዝኡ! ካብ’ዚ ዝበሰለ ምቁር ባናናይ ግዝኡ!”
But Tom does not give up.
He calls, “Buy my bananas!
Buy my sweet ripe bananas!”
ሓንቲ ሰበይቲ ካብ’ቲ ካሴታ ጥማር ባናና ተልዕል። ነቲ ባናና ብጥንቃቐ ትርእዮ።
One woman picks up a bunch of bananas from the tray.
She looks at the bananas carefully.
እታ ሰበይቲ ነቲ ባናና ገዚኣቶ።
The woman buys the bananas.
ካልኦት ሰባት ናብ’ቲ ባንኮ ይመጹ። ናይ ቶም ባናና ገዚኦሞ፡ በሊዖሞ ድማ።
More people come to the stall.
They buy Tom’s bananas and eat them.
ብቕልጡፍ፡ እቲ ካሴታ ጥራዩ ተሪፉ። ቶም ነቲ ዘእተዎ ገንዘብ ፈቒድዎ።
Soon, the tray is empty.
Tom counts the money he earned.
ሽዑ ቶም ሳሙና፡ ሽኮርን ሕብስትን ይገዝእ። ነቲ ንብረት ኣብ’ቲ ካሴታኡ የእትዎ።
Then Tom buys soap, sugar, and bread.
He puts the things in his tray.
ቶም ነቲ ካሴታ ኣብ ርእሱ ኣጣጢሑ ብምስካም ናብ ቤቱ ይኸይድ።
Tom balances the tray on his head and goes home.
