Tingi wakali kukkala abaneene bakwe.

Tingi lived with his grandmother.


Antoomwe abanene bakwe, bakali kuzilanganya ŋombe.

He used to look after the cows with her.


Bumwi buzuba kwakasika basikalumamba.

One day the soldiers came.


Basikalumamba bakazibinga ŋombe akuzyitola.

They took the cows away.


Tingi abaneene bakwe bakatija akuya kuyuba.

Tingi and his grandmother ran away and hid.


Bakaliyubide musyokwe limwi kwasiya.

They hid in the bush until night.


Basikalumamba bakajoka alimwi.

Then the soldiers came back.


Baneene bakamusisa Tingi kunsi amatuvwu.

Grandmother hid Tingi under the leaves.


Umwi wabasikalumamba wakalyata akali Tingi, pele Tingi wakaumuna wii.

One of the soldiers put his foot right on him, but he kept quiet.


Nibakaunka basikalumamba, Tingi abaneene bakayubuluka.

When it was safe, Tingi and his grandmother came out.


Mukaumu-umu bakasobelela kuya kuŋanda yabo.

They crept home very quietly.
