Tingi a wa tsama ni kokwani wakwe.

Tingi lived with his grandmother.


Yena a wa hlayisa a ti homu zin’wi na kokwani.

He used to look after the cows with her.


A siku gu kari, ku tili a va ka maxanga.

One day the soldiers came.


Vona va tekili a ti homu va famba.

They took the cows away.


Tingi zin’wi ni kokwani wakwe va tsutsumili va ya fihlala.

Tingi and his grandmother ran away and hid.


Vona va fihlalile lomu khwatini kala gi phuma.

They hid in the bush until night.


A nzaku ka lezvo, a va ka maxanga va wuyili kambi.

Then the soldiers came back.


Tingi a fihliwilwe lomu ka matluka hi kokwani wakwe.

Grandmother hid Tingi under the leaves.


A mun’wi wa va ka maxanga a kanzihelili tingi, kanilezvi yena anga ketangi.

One of the soldiers put his foot right on him, but he kept quiet.


A kama wo ngana na ku rulili, tingi ni kokwani wakwe va humili laha ku basa.

When it was safe, Tingi and his grandmother came out.


Vona va xiyamelili va ya kaya.

They crept home very quietly.
