Tom carries a tray of ripe bananas.
湯姆去街市度賣香蕉。
Tom goes to the market to sell bananas.
好多人去街市度買生果。
People at the market are buying fruit.
但係冇人去湯姆個檔口嗰便，因為佢哋更加鍾意幫襯女仔買生果。
But no one is buying
Tom’s bananas.
They prefer to buy fruit from women.
大家就話：「喺我哋呢度，得女仔先會賣生果嘅」。佢哋仲問：「邊度有男仔會去賣生果㗎？」
“In our community, only women sell fruit,” people say. “What kind of a man is this?” people ask.
但係湯姆都冇放棄。佢喺街市度叫賣：「快啲買我啲香蕉！又靚又甜嘅香蕉！」
But Tom does not give up.
He calls, “Buy my bananas!
Buy my sweet ripe bananas!”
有個女仔由個籃入面捉起一揪香蕉，好小心噉睇吓睇。
One woman picks up a bunch of bananas from the tray.
She looks at the bananas carefully.
然之後佢買咗嗰揪香蕉。
The woman buys the bananas.
越嚟越多人嚟到湯姆嘅檔位前。佢哋買咗湯姆嘅香蕉，仲食到津津有味添。
More people come to the stall.
They buy Tom’s bananas and eat them.
冇幾耐，湯姆個籃就空晒，佢就計吓自己賣香蕉賺到嘅錢。
Soon, the tray is empty.
Tom counts the money he earned.
湯姆用呢啲錢買咗番梘、砂糖同埋麵包。佢擺呢啲嘢入佢個籃度。
Then Tom buys soap, sugar, and bread.
He puts the things in his tray.
湯姆好定當噉就用個頭頂住個籃返屋企。
Tom balances the tray on his head and goes home.
